Yama

The God of Death: Yama

Yama is the Hindu god of death and the afterlife. He is often depicted as a dark-skinned man with a fierce expression, carrying a staff and wearing a skull cap.

  • Yama is also known as Dharma Raja, which means "King of Dharma" or "Lord of Righteousness".
  • He is the son of the god of the sky, Surya, and the goddess of the earth, Prithvi.
  • Yama is responsible for collecting the souls of the dead and taking them to the underworld, known as Naraka.
  • He is also believed to be the god of justice, and is often depicted as a fierce warrior, carrying a sword and wearing a helmet.
  • Yama is said to have four brothers, who are also gods in Hindu mythology: Vayu, the god of the wind; Agni, the god of fire; Varuna, the god of the sea; and Indra, the king of the gods.

Yama is also associated with the concept of karma, and is believed to be responsible for the consequences of an individual's actions in this life.
