Vethathiri Maharishi, also known as V. K. S. Ayyavazhi, was a renowned Indian saint and the 56th pontiff of the Dravidian community of Vedantic tradition, the Vethathiri Mutt.

He was born on May 5, 1867, in Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu, India, to a family of Vaijkunthar Vedantins. Ayyavazhi was initiated into the Vaijkunthar Vedanta tradition at a young age and was soon recognized as a spiritual leader by his peers.

Ayyavazhi is believed to have attained Self-realization at the age of 16 and went on to become a prominent figure in the Vethathiri Mutt, which he led until his passing in 1936.
