Vedanta Desika was born in the town of Trichy in the Tamil Nadu region of southern India. His father was a merchant and his mother was a homemaker. Desika received his initial education at home and later studied Sanskrit and Tamil literature at the Madras University.
- Desika was a prolific poet and wrote over 1,000 poems in Tamil, mostly in the form of devotional songs and prayers.
- He was a staunch advocate of the Desika tradition, which emphasizes the importance of devotion to the deity Vishnu and the authority of the Vedas.
- Desika was also a skilled philosopher and wrote several treatises on philosophy, including the "Achanutha Vaibhava" and the "Tattvacintamani".
