Vairagya: The Virtue of Detachment

Facts about Vairagya

Vairagya is one of the eight limbs of yoga as described in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.

The word Vairagya is derived from the Sanskrit words "Vai" meaning "to let go" and "Raga" meaning " attachment" or "desire".

Vairagya is the practice of detachment from worldly desires, emotions, and attachments.

Detachment is not the same as apathy or indifference, but rather a state of being free from the influence of external stimuli.

Vairagya is essential for spiritual growth and self-realization.
