Tyagaraja (1767-1847) was a renowned Indian classical musician, composer, and poet from the Telugu tradition. He is considered one of the greatest composers of Carnatic music, a classical music tradition from South India.
- He was born in Tirumalayapalem, a village in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India.
- His real name was Tyagaraja Swami, and he was a devotee of Lord Venkateswara.
- He was a master of the Mridangam, a percussion instrument, and was known for his exceptional skills in playing the instrument.
- He composed over 1,000 compositions, known as Krithis, which are still widely performed today.
- He was a prolific composer and wrote music in various ragas, or melodic modes, of Carnatic music.
- He was also a skilled poet and wrote numerous poems, known as Vyanjana, in Telugu.
