Hindu Mythology

Hindu mythology is an ancient collection of stories, legends, and myths that originated in the Indian subcontinent.

The Hindu pantheon is vast and complex, with numerous gods, goddesses, and supernatural beings.

The most well-known gods are Brahma, the creator; Vishnu, the preserver; and Shiva, the destroyer.

  • Brahma created the universe with his five heads.
  • Vishnu took on various avatars (incarnations) to preserve the universe, including the demon-slaying hero Rama.
  • Shiva is often depicted as a yogi, playing the lyre, and is associated with destruction and rebirth.

The epic Ramayana tells the story of Rama's battle with the demon king Ravana.

The Mahabharata is another epic that describes the battle between the Pandavas and the Kauravas.

The Hindu concept of karma refers to the idea that an individual's actions have consequences in this life and the next.

The cycle of birth, death, and rebirth is known as samsara, and is governed by the law of karma.
