Asura: The Antagonists of Hindu Mythology

The Asuras, also known as the Danavas, are a group of beings in Hindu mythology who are often depicted as the antagonists of the Devas (gods).

  • The Asuras are said to have been created by the sage Kashyapa from the Vedas, the sacred texts of Hinduism.
  • They are often associated with the god of chaos and disorder, Shumbha.
  • The Asuras are known for their military prowess and their ability to challenge the power of the Devas.
  • They are also associated with the concept of "asurashakti", or the power of the Asuras.
  • The Asuras are said to have been defeated by the Devas in the great war of the Mahabharata.
  • However, the Asuras are also said to have played an important role in the creation of the universe and the maintenance of the cosmic order.
